Midwives are the traditional care providers for mothers and infants. Midwives are trained professionals with expertise and skills in supporting women to maintain healthy pregnancies and have optimal births and recoveries during the postpartum period. Midwives provide women with individualized care uniquely suited to their physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and cultural needs. Midwifery is a woman-centered empowering model of maternity care that is utilized in all of the countries of the world with the best maternal and infant outcomes such as The Netherlands, United Kingdom and Canada.

MIDWIVES MODEL OF CARE IS WOMAN-CENTERED

The Midwives Model of Care™ is a fundamentally different approach to pregnancy and childbirth than contemporary obstetrics. Midwifery care is uniquely nurturing, hands-on care before, during, and after birth. Midwives are health care professionals specializing in pregnancy and childbirth who develop a trusting relationship with their clients, which results in confident, supported labor and birth. While there are different types of midwives practicing in various settings, all midwives are trained to provide comprehensive prenatal care and education, guide labor and birth, address complications, and care for newborns. The Midwives Model of Care™ is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life events.

The Midwives Model of Care includes:

  • Monitoring the physical, psychological and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle

  • Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support

  • Minimizing technological interventions and

  • Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention.

The application of this model has been proven to reduce to incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section. (Midwives Model of Care definition is Copyrighted © by the Midwifery Task Force, all rights reserved)

Midwives At Your Cervix

  • Frances Jones-Coleman, MPH, LM, CPM

Hi, I'm Frances, a wife and mother of three who is passionate about family dynamics and childbirth. For the past 12 years, I've been dedicated to improving women's health, working as an educator and advocate in this field. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Trevecca Nazarene University and a Master's Degree in Public Health with a focus on Women's Health from Loma Linda University.

Throughout my career I've partnered with nonprofits and grassroots organizations to create impactful programs that educate and support new families. My journey has included roles with Healthy Start, Texas Children's Hospital (eight years), and The Women's Hospital of Texas (five years).

I've also received extensive training in childbirth education (Lamaze), breastfeeding, infant CPR (American Heart Association), newborn care, and car seat installation. As a certified doula through CAPPA, I spent three years supporting families, before transitioning into midwifery.

In 2019, I became a Licensed Midwife through the State of Texas and earned my certification from NARM. During my 2.5 years of hands-on training with three local midwives, I immersed myself in the rich history, art, and science of midwifery. Since then, I've had the privilege of being part of over 200 families' birth journeys. I am passionate about helping families thrive and am committed to supporting every aspect of their birth experience.

  • Faren Foley, LM, CPM

Congratulations on the new addition to your family! I’m Faren, and I’m passionate about serving families right where they are. From a young age, I’ve felt called to support families, whether it was helping in church daycares or guiding pregnant teens through breastfeeding and baby care. I come from a long line of nurturing women who have shaped the way I care for families today.

I believe in the power of compassion, faith, and community, and love to share the goodness of Yah in everything I do. My husband and I have been married since 2011, and together we’ve been blessed with three wonderful children—Brock, Layla, and Blake.

Midwifery became my path because I wanted to make a real impact on maternal and infant health in the U.S. I believe quality midwifery care lays a strong foundation for a healthy pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience, tailored to each family’s unique needs.

I earned my Bachelor’s in Speech Communications from Texas Southern University in 2011, and after working in our family’s non-emergency transportation business, I was able to pursue my true passion: midwifery. I attended Southwest Technical College and became a midwife in 2023.

As your midwife, I am committed to ensuring you feel confident, empowered, and supported throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond.
